Soleus
Origin: posterior and medial tibia and fibula head
Insertion: calcaneus via the achilles tendon
Action: plantar flexion
Popliteus
Origin: lateral epicondyle of femur
Insertion: posterior tibia
Action|: initiates flexion of the knee and internal rotation of tibia
Tibialis Anterior
Origin: upper 1/2 and lateral surface of tibia
Insertion: base of 1st metatarsal and medial cuneiform
Action: dorsiflexion and inversion
Tibialis Posterior
Origin: posterior tibia and fibula
Insertion: navicular, cuboid, cuneiforms, mets
Action: plantar flexion and inversion
Peroneus Longus
Origin|: proximal portion of lateral fibula
Insertion: 1st metatarsal, medial cuneiform
Action: everts and plantar flexes foot
Peroneus Brevis
Origin: lower 2/3 of lateral fibula
Insertion: base of 5th metatarsal
Action: evers and plantar flexes foot
Flexor Digitorum Longus
Origin: posterior surface of tibia
Insertion: base of phalanges 1-4
Action: flexes toes and plantar flexes foot
