Wellness service, advocacy for health public policy (can’t smoke 6 ft within building, wear seatbelt), antismoking education, yoga classes, etc
- Disease and Injury prevention
Clinical (screening, immunization) - screening can detect things early on and immunization (vaccines) can prevent illnesses
Behavioural (lifestyle) - healthy diet, quit smoking, etc
Environmental (societal pressure) - pressure to have vending machines in schools with junk food
Primary prevention
before disease onset (hand hygiene, mask, seatbelt)
Secondary prevention
Early disease detection -> early diagnosis and prompt treatment
Ex: Pap smears for cervical cancer aim to detect cancer early on
Tertiary prevention
Disease/illness present. Lessen and manage existing health conditions
Ex: Cardiac rehabilitation for someone who had a heart attack. Helps them recover, improve health heart, and prevent future heart problems

Focus on treating existing health problems
Primary care
First contact with health care system
Ex: going to a walk in clinic
Secondary care
Provision of specialized medical service
Ex: after walk in clinic, you get referred to a specialist
Tertiary care
Specialized medical care and highly technical
Ex: Neurosurgery for brain tumour
- Rehabilitation
Required after addiction, injury, or physical/mental illness
Includes - social services, occupational ands speech therapy, physiotherapy
- Supportive care
Clients with chronic illness, progressive illness, or disability
Long term care, assisted living facilities
Also includes respire care (temporary relief for primary caregivers by having others step in) and palliative care (end of life support)
