Due to necessity. Influx of European settlers causing poor sanitation and disease outbreak

People affiliated with church but didn’t have any healthcare education

Four provinces (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia)

Provincial - health, education, and social services
Federal - aboriginal health, military personnel and veterans, policy development
Conditions in 1900’s after population grew?
Very poor. Crowded living conditions, terrible sanitation conditions, and inadequate housing led to disease
What is a welfare state?
Government that takes care of well being of citizens. Occurred during 1900’s
Ex: unemployment benefits, income support, housing assistance, etc
