Describe what is input, processing, and output?
Input - entering commands, data via input devices (keyboards, mice, touchscreens)
Processing - OS feeds numeric commands and data to CPU, performs calculations, then delivers results back to OS
Output - what the OS delivers back to the user
What are 4 examples of an output process?
- Shown on a display
- Sound
- Data is sent to a storage device or network connection
- Page is sent to the printer
What is binary code?
Binary code is a sequence or stream of electrical signals interpreted as 1s and 0s
What is a ROM chip? What does it stand for? Where is it located?
ROM = Read-Only Memory chip
It’s located on the motherboard
It contains the programming that allows a computer to start up or regenerate each time it is turned on.
What type of current is provided by the power supply, and which is provided to the power supply?
Direct Current DC = by power supply
Alternating Current AC = to the power supply from outlet
What type of data is a ROM chip?
a ROM chip is non-volatile, permanent memory that is usually read only
