Parainfluenza virus.
Barking cough and inspiratory stridor
What are the three lesions of the larynx she wants us to know?
Vocal cord nodule, laryngeal squamous papilloma, and laryngeal squamous carcinoma.
How do we characterize vocal cord nodules and what is the usually the cause?
Nodule on the true vocal cord composed of degenerative myxoid tissue and covered with squamous epithelium. Get it from excessive use which is why they are called singers nodules. These dudes are bilateral.
What does the nodule look like it if you look at it and what does it feel like?
Soft and looks translucent
How do we characterize laryngeal papilloma and what are they usually due to?
Benign papillary tumor of the vocal cord. Due to HPV 6 and 11.
What is the difference between children and adults with laryngeal papilloma?
Comes in multiple with kids and usually single with adults
Do laryngeal papilloma become malignant?
No
What type of cancer is laryngeal carcinoma, what gender and age, what 3 risk factors, and what 3 clinical symptoms?
Squamous. Males over 60. Alcohol, smoking and HPV. Cough, stridor, and hoarseness.
