Lecture 9 Flashcards
Name the following structures on the skull:
- Frontal
- Parietal
- Temporal
- Occipital
What is the name that is given to the bone base of the bony base that supports the tentorium cerebelli a sheet of dura that seperates the cerebellum from the cerebrum?
The internal occiptal protrubrence
What is the name given to the horizontal plane of the ethmoidal bone with many foramina that allow the passage of olfactory nerve filaments from the oral cavity. It is suituated just in front of the ethmoidal conchae
Cribiform plate
What normally sits in the hypophyseal fossa?
The hypophyseal fossa in normally where the pituaritary gland would sit. It is formed by the rostral clinoid process cranially and by caudal clinoid process caudally
What is the clinoid process?
The dorsal clinoid prcess is actually part of a greater portion called the crista petrosa and sticks up as a small bony portion. The rostral and caudal clinoid processs are significant enough to be observed on an X-ray
Label the following structures:
- Rostral Clinoid Process
- Hypophyseal fossa
- Caudal Clinoid Process
- Crista Petrosa
What is the name for the most outer layer of the meninges? What is it connected to:
The most outer layer is referred to as the dura mater. Adherant to the periosteum within the cranium. However in the spine it forms a cavity the the epidural fat will sit in.
Provide the name of the menigies layer that presses against the dura as a result of the pressure from the central spinal fluid and briefly describe its structure:
The arachnoid layer. Has spider like projection that act to connect it to the pia mater.
What is the name of the layer of the meninges that connects directly to the suface of the brain:
The pia matter refers to the layer of the meninges that is bound directly to the surface of the brain.
Provide the name for the structure that is a midsagittal section between the two sides of the brain and contains a dorsal sagittal sinus within in:
The falx cerebri
What is the name for the transverse fissure separating the cerebrum and the cerebellum often ossifying with age?
Tentorium cerebelli
Name the following arteries:
- Common carotid
- Internal carotid
- Occipital
- Maxillary
- Facial
- Lingual
What are the following major arteries that make up the cerbral arterial circle and the basic supply of the arterial blood to the spinal cord?
- Basilar
- Internal corroted artery
- Rostral cerebral
- Middle Cerebral
- Caudal Cerebral
- Rostral Cerebellar
- Caudal Cerebellar
