Hip/coxal bone
Flat
Contains ilium, ischium, publs
Fuses to make acetabulum
Lateral surface of hip bone
Gluteal surface

Medial surface of hip bone
Divided by medial border
Superior section contains iliac fossa anteriorly and auricular surface posteriorly
Inferior section contains obturator foramen
Femur
Proximal end has spherical head, narrow cylindrical neck, greater and lesser trochanters
Body is cylindrical and has prominent posterior border: linea aspera
Distal end has medial and lateral condyle and bony elevation adductor tubercle above medial condyle
Tibia
Proximal end has medial and lateral condyle, bony elevation on anterior surface called tibial tuberosity
Distal end has bony projection called medial malleolus
Fibula
Proximal end has head and neck
Distal end has projection called lateral malleolus
Tarsal bones
7 short bones
Proximal group: calcaneus (forms heel), talus
Middle group: navicular
Distal group: cuboid, cuneiforms (medial, intermediate, lateral)
Metatarsal bones
Small long bones
Consists of proximal end (base), body (shaft), distal end (head)
Numbered 1-5 medial to lateral
Toes
3 phalanges (proximal, medial, distal) Big toe has 2 phalanges (proximal, distal)
