Lecture 14 Flashcards
What are the cross-secitonal shapes?
I, C, L, and T, pipes, tubes, round and rectangular bars, and plates
What are the four types of classifications?
W‐shapes, S‐shapes, HP‐shapes, M‐shapes
What is the difference between W and S shapes?
W shape is flat, and S shape is tapered
How are c-shape similar in profile to s-shapes?
Inner flange surfaces are inclined at an angle of 2:12
What are the numbers after the letter c for?
The first number gives the overall depth of the section, and the second number gives the weight of a 1-ft length of the section
How is a t-shpae section made?
A t-shape section is made by splitting a W-shape, M-shape, or S-shape into two equal parts. And thefore called WT, MT, or ST
Steel angles (L-shapes) can be either ____ or ____
Either equal-leg angles or unequal-leg angles
What are the three numbers on the L-shaped?
First two numbers give length of each leg and the third number gives the thickness of the legs
How are pipes designated?
By their normal diameter and by wheter the pipe is standard weight, extra strong, or double-extra strong (wall thickness)
Hot-rolled sections may be..
square, rectangular, or round
Uses of L-shape section?
For masonry lintels and members of steel trusses
Uses of Pipes?
Used for columns or as members of a truss
Uses of square of round HSSs?
Used as columns
Uses of rectangular HSSs
Used as beams
Terms for a steel building under construction?
Skeleton cage, Steel skeleton, and Skeleton frame
