Autocratic leadership style
-Doesn’t involve employees in the decision-making process

-The leader delegates decision-making to employees that he/she trusts.
Charismatic leadership style
-Uses his/her personality and charm to influence the behavior and actions of employees.
Transactional Leadership style
-The leader uses rewards and punishments to drive employees towards business goals and targets.
Democratic leadership style (application )
-The leader knows her limitations and is open to new ideas
-Employees are experienced in their chosen fields of occupation
-Teamwork is promoted and the inputs of employees are valued
-The leader requires a different perspective on an issue and experienced employees could only provide valuable information
Autocratic leadership styles

-When a crisis arises within an organisation and requires immediate action on the part of the leader
-In the event of an emergency that requires the leader to act immediately to avoid loss of life
-The leader has all the information at her disposal and does not require further input from employees
-The business appointed new employees that could benefit from this type of leadership style
Free reign (application )
-The leader is occupied with more important aspects of the business and delegation of duties may improve the efficiency of the organisation
-Leadership potential exists amongst employees and they need opportunities to acquire additional skills
-Employees have acquired a greater level of skills on a particular subject matter than what the leader has acquired
-Employees who are experienced in their chosen field, are often trusted on by the leader to make responsible decisions
Charismatic leadership style (application)
-The leader wants to boost the morale of employees, who may be demotivated
-The leader wants employees to continue on the path to a high productivity level
-Confidence levels of employees are low, and employees need to be inspired
-The organisation wants to implement changes and uses the leader to get the support of employees
Transactional leadership style (application )
-The business wants to maximise employees’ performance
-Deadlines have to be met on short notice
-Employees have a low morale
-The leader wants employees to exceed target levels
Impact of the democratic leadership style
-Employees contribute innovative ideas that may benefit the organization and lead to improved production techniques
-The leaders don’t have to rely on their knowledge to solve complex problems
-The reliability of feedback provided by some employees may not be accurate
-The leader could delay making decisions because she is waiting for inputs from employees
Differences between management and leadership
Management:
-Follows the plans to reach targets
-Focuses on organisational targets
-Controls the actions of employees
-Task orientated, ensuring the job gets done
Leadership:
-Promotes creativity to improve productivity levels
-Focuses on the vision and mission of the organisation
-Influences the actions of employees
-People-orientated thus putting employees first
Impact of the autocratic leadership style
-The leader is in a position to make quick decisions, without consulting employees
-Clear guidance could be given to inexperienced staff
-The organisation could lose out on new ideas from employees
-Employees could become frustrated if their inputs arent considered
Impact of the free reign leadership style
-Productivity levels of the organisation could increase significantly because employees feel valued
-Employees experience personal growth as they are allowed to make decisions on their own
-The uncertainty regarding clear decision-making could influence the morale of employees negatively
-The leader doesn’t become involved in disagreements amongst employees
