What is leadership?

What is task-oriented leadership?
- pursued goals and performance attainment

What is relationship-oriented leadership?
- maximizes quality of relationships among those being led

What is laissez-fair leadership?
- indifference, hesitancy to make decisions.
- non-leadership i.e. coach being disengaged
What is transactional leadership?
- leaders uses rewards/recognition to increase adherence to requests/orders
- includes component of active and passive forms of management-by-exception
- includes contingent-rewards component
What is transformational leadership?
- leaders go beyond self-interests and empower, inspire, and encourage followers

- need to consider followers characteristics alongside leaders’ to help understand the effect of leader’s behaviours on those being led

- may impact participants’ physical and mental well being
