Landing Gear - Brakes Flashcards
What is the backup power source if the EDP fails?
PTU
Main and nose gear retract?
Main gear retracts aft
Nose gear retracts forward
Which gear doors are hydraulically operated?
The aft main gear doors and the fwd nose gear door
Which gear doors are mechanically linked?
The fwd main gear and the aft nose gear door
What monitors and controls the landing gear components?
PSEU proximity sensor electronics unit
How far can the tiller turn the nose wheel?
70 degrees left or right of centre for low speed taxi
How far can the rudder pedals turn the nose wheel?
8degrees left or right of centre for high speed taxi
Free castor mode happens when?
When turned off or there is a fault of the nose wheel angle exceeds 70 degrees
What happens during free castoring mode?
Nose wheel can turn up to 120 degrees
Red Landing gear advisory lights what does that mean?
Indicates when the position of the gear and the gear handle position are not in agreement
Landing gear selector handle illuminated means?
When gear operation does not agree with position of selector handle
What keeps the gear in the up position?
Mechanical uplocks keep the gear up and hydraulic doors closed
What keeps the landing gear down?
Over centre locking
Continuous hydraulic pressure remains applied to the doors and gear in the down and locked position
LDG GEAR INOP caution light
If the PSEU can’t control the sequencing valve or if a sequencing valve fails. Alt gear extension will be req
When is an alt gear extension required?
- # 2 HYD pressure or fluid loss
- One or more landing gear fail to extend normally
- LDG GEAR INOP caution light
What does the inhibit switch do?
Disabled normal landing gear extension, the handle can be moved and the gear won’t be activated
Opening the landing gear alternate release door does what?
Relives the #2 hydraulic system pressure from landing gear uplocks
Pulling the yellow and black striped handle in the main gear release door does what?
Releases the main landing gear hydraulic doors and main gear uplocks. The main gear then free falls but may not extend fully to down and locked position
What lights will be illuminated on the landing gear control panel after an alternate gear extension?
All hydraulic doors open (amber lights) and all landing gear are down-locked (green)
Gear warning tone will sound with gear not down and locked when?
3 scenarios
Scenario 1: extending flaps without gear (flaps greater than 8.5 degrees, either Eng torque <50% and power lever angles less than detent)
Scenario 2: flying to low and slow without the gear (both power levers less than flight idle plus 12 degrees and airspeed less than 156kts and RADALT less than 1053ft
Scenario 3: OEI approach (one power lever less than flight idle plus 12 degrees and both power lever angles less than the rating detent and IAS <156kts and RADALT <1053ft
Horn can only be muted in scenario 3
NOSE STEERING caution light
Failure if the steering control unit (SCU)
Exceeds 70 degree angle
Or when nose wheel steering switch is off and hydraulic pressure is detected
