Krebs Cycle Flashcards
What is the krebs cycle?
Series of enzyme regulated chemical steps that occur in aerobic organisms
How does krebs cycle release energy?
Oxidising acetyl-CoA
What is the first step of the krebs cycle?
Pyruvate (from glycolysis) converted to acetyl-CoA
Decarboxylated + CoA added
Using CoA-SH + NAD+
Produces NADH + CO2
What is the second step?
Acetyl CoA enters krebs cycle
Converted to citric acid
What is third step?
Citric acid interconversion to isomer isocitric acid
Using aconitase
What is the fourth step?
Isocitrate —-> alpha-ketoglutarate
Using isocitrate dehydrogenase
What is the fifth step?
Alpha-ketoglutarate —-> succinyl-CoA
Using alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complex
Succinyl-CoA —-> succinate
Using succinyl-CoA synthase
What is the sixth step?
Succinate —-> fumarate
Using succinate dehydrogenase
What is the seventh step?
Fumarate —-> malate
Using fumarase
What is the eighth step?
Malate —-> oxaloacetate
Using malate dehydrogenase
What does krebs deliver?
3 NAD+
1 FAD
1 ATP
How many ATP in krebs?
12
