Intro to Biology Flashcards
What does PMC stand for and what does it mean
Program, Metabolism, and Container, program is the DNA of an organism or cell, metabolism is how an organism gets energy, and container is what the organism is made of.
What are the levels of organization
Atoms, molecules, organelles, cells, organisms, tissue, organs, organ systems, populations, communities, ecosystems, biomes, and biospheres
What are all the components of scientific argumentation and CER
The claim is a statement about what you’re trying to prove, evidence is everything that might support the claim, and reasoning is explaining how the evidence supports the claim
What is the smallest level of organization that has a program
A cell
What is an example of every level of organization
A kind of atom is hydrogen, a molecule is carbon dioxide, an organelle is the prokaryote, a cell is a white blood cell, a tissue is muscle, an organ is the brain, an organ system is the digestive system, an organism is a deer, a population is white-tailed deer in Tippecanoe County, a community is all living things in Tippecanoe County, an ecosystem is all living and nonliving components in Lake Michigan, a biome is the tundra, and a biosphere is Earth
What are the differences between living and nonliving things
Living things have PMC, and the abilities to reproduce and respond to external stimuli. Nonliving things have none of these
