10.2 Flashcards
What is the order of the events of mitosis?
Prophase, where the nucleus begins to break down and the chromosomes condense, metaphase, where the chromosomes are led by spindle fibers to the middle of the cell, anaphase, where the chromosomes are split in half and pulled to opposite sides of the cell, telophase, where the cell begins to break apart, and cytokinesis, where the cells splits fully into two.
What are multipotent, pluripotent, and induced pluripotent cells?
Multipotent cells are found in small numbers in all cells, they replace dying cells.
Pluripotent cells are embryonic cells, they can have multiple purposes.
Induced pluripotent cells are from cells that were changed to act like embryonic cells.
How are specialized cells different from each other?
They pick up transcription factors.
Are the parent cells the same or different from the daughter cells of mitosis?
They are the same, the daughter cells are exact copies.
How do cells in the body have the same genes but different roles?
Some proteins are repressed in certain genes and others are emphasized, so only certain proteins are made from the genetic code in that cell to help it perform a specialized task.
What do transcription factors do?
They limit or encourage different proteins a cell can produce.
