Q
NSAIDs
A
- prostaglandin production inhibitor = COX inhibitor
- MOA: prevent prostaglandin production by inhibiting COX1, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic
- indication: mild pain (analgesic) –> sprains, strains, muscle pain, toothache, HA; fever; inflammation –> OA, RA, gouty arth, Lupus, dysmenorrhea
Contraindication: pregnancy (class D), PUD, RF, bleeding, concurrently with ETOH
- black box warning (twice): sudden death, MI, unstable angina, ischemic CVA, TIA and peripheral thrombosis

Q
NSAID-Aspirin
A
- MOA: antiplatelet: small scheduled dose (MI, CVA, prophylaxis)
- contraindication: <19 years of age (Reye’s syndrome–swelling of liver and brain)

Q
glucocorticoids
A
prednisone, methylprednisone
- indication: inflammatory disorders
- contraindication: fungal/viral infections, live attenuated virus vaccine (intranasal flu, small pox)
- routes: PO, IM, topical, aerosol, intra-articular injection
- SE: slide18
