increase RBC
MOA:
- erythropoietin growth factor
Indication:
- low RBC secondary to CKD
- replacement of blood cells after chemo and HIV drug
- hasting of bone marrow function after a bone marrow transplant
SE:
- HTN
- increased H&H
- low iron and B12
AE:
- seizure, thromboembolic event
Contraindication
- pregnancy
- uncontrolled HTN

A
specific to neutrophils and WBC
MOA:
- leukopoietic growth factor
Indication:
- neutropenia from antineoplastic drugs, HIV, neonatal neutropenia (prevent infection)
- increase WBC prior to harvesting (autologous transplant)
SE:
- bone/joint/muscle pain
- leukocytosis absolute neutrophil > 10,000
AE:
- splenomegaly/rupture
Contraindication:
- pregnancy (C)

- thrombopoietic growth factor
Indication:
- chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia
AE: - fluid retention and HF - tachydysrhythmia - MI - conjunctival injection papilledema
