what is autoimmune disease?
mix of innate and adaptive immune system. it is when your immune system attacks itself. ex, T1D destructing of pancreas that make insulin
5 stages of disease
- incubation (a couple of days)
- prodromal period (mild headaches, or others, you are infectious)
- invasive phase (disease are most severe)
- decline phase
- convalescence
how do vaccines work?
the antigen is introduced to the body so the body creates antibodies that are created to know what to look out for in that virus
- “produce antibodies that look for this antigen”
what is measles?
highly contagious, rash, cough, pink eyes, runny nose, fever, can result in brain inflammation (encephalitis) causing brain damage and death, no cure

what is smallpox?
one of the deadliest and most contagious diseases, no cure, survives often had blindness, likely scarring
what is diphtheria?
spread through respiratory. spores enter body through cuts or animal bites, breathing problems, swollen neck glands, complications: was the leading cause of childhood death before vaccination, airway blockage, kidney failure, nerve damage.
what is rubella?
low-grade fever, respiratory problems, pink rash. pregnant women who get this can have miscarriages or serious birth defects including deafness, cataracts, heart disease, intellectual disability. no cure
what is polio?
affects the bodys nervous system and can cause a gradual weakening of the leg muscles and loss of movement

what is tetanus?
get it from spores, jaw cramping, muscle spasms, seizures, fever and sweating, no cure, very painful
