What is the purpose and operation of the in-core instrument background detector?
A
The current developed by the in-core instruments can be altered by gamma ionizations and other noise sources. The background detector is a wire of similar length to the in-core instruments and will develop a current due to the same noise factors, which can be subtracted from the in-core current to net a true neutron power.
