Q

Describe the fuel building ventilation isolation damper arrangement.

A

There are 8 dampers total, 4 for the supply and 4 for exhaust isolation. They are arranged in two sets of two dampers in series on both supply and exhaust sides of the ventilation, and each line has one ‘A’ train valve and one ‘B’ train valve for redundancy.

16
Q

‘B’ FBEVIAS actuates. What is the status os the fuel building normals AHUs and exhaust units? Assume the ‘A’ FBEVIAS failed to receive the cross trip.

A

Still running dead headed, only ‘A’ FBEVIAS secures the normal air handlers.

17
Q

What is the purpose of the charcoal in the Fuel Building essential air filtration unit?

A

The charcoal adsorbs gaseous iodine prior to exhausting air to outside through fuel building exhaust plenum.

18
Q

What is the purpose of the heaters on the inlet of the Fuel Building Essentials?

A

Keep humidity <70% to allow the charcoal to operate at peak efficiency.

19
Q

Why aren’t the fuel building exhaust units equipped with filtration?

A

The exhaust plenum is monitored by RU monitors to detect any potential release of radioactivity. Activity detected above the set-point will actuate FBEVIAS, isolating the release.

21
Q

SIAS and FBEVIAS occur simultaneously. What mode are the Fuel Building essentials running in? What is the status of the Normal Fuel Building ventilation? Last, what will happen if the SIAS is cleared and reset?

A

Both Fuel Building Essentials will be running taking a suction on the of the Aux building, and the Fuel Building normals will be secured and isolated.
When the SIAS is reset, the suction dampers will realign to the Fuel Building.

22
Q

How many trains of PREACS are required to be operable?

A

2 trains of the Pump Room Essential Air Cleanup System are required to meet tech spec 3.7.13 requirements.
