Identification Exam Flashcards
Which vertebrae is this?
Why?
Atlas (C1)
This vertebrae does not have a body, lamina or pedicle. Instead it forms an incomplete ring that in formed by an anterior and posterior arch which is accompanied by a tubercle.
The posterior surface of the anterior arch contains a facet (dental fovea for articulation with the odontoid process)
Transverse foramina which acts as a passageway for the vertebral artery/vein.
Concavity of the lateral masses.
Vertebral notch, posterior to the lateral masses.
Which ligament is this?
What is the function of this ligament?
Sacrospinous Ligament
Convert the greater and lesser sciatic notches into the greater and lesser sciatic foramina.
Helps to resist nutation of the sacrum and posterior rotation of the innominate.
Which nerve is this?
What is the nerve root level of this nerve?
Which foramen does it exit through?
Sciatic nerve.
L4 to S3 (5 nerves which conjoin as one)
Exits the greater sciatic foramen
Which muscle is this?
What nerve innervates this muscle/level?
Which nerve lies underneath this muscle? Compression of this nerve results in what syndrome?
Piriformis muscle
Nerve to the piriformis, S1/2
Sciatic
Piriformis syndrome
State the muscle/nerve innervation/function?
Orbicularis oculi
Cranial Nerve 7 (Fascial nerve)
Opens the eye
State the muscle, nerve innervation and level.
Gluteus Maximus, Inferior gluteal nerve, L5 to S2
State the muscle, nerve innervation and level.
TFL, superior gluteal nerve, L4 to S1.
State the muscle, nerve innervation and leve.
Rectus Femoris, posterior division of the femoral nerve, L2 to L4.
State the muscle, nerve innervation and level.
Glute medius, superior gluteal nerve, L4 to S1.

What ligament is this?
What is its function?
