Antidote
Pharmacology
An injectable form of V-B12 which is an antidote for cyanide toxicity. It binds with circulating & cellular cyanide to form cyanocobalamin which is then excreted in urine
Metabolism
Excreted by kidneys
Indications
Life-threatening cyanide toxicity (e.g shock, resp failure, seizure, ALOC or myocardial ischaemia
Contraindications
Allergy and/or adverse drug reactions
Precautions
- Hypertension (substantial > occur with admin)
* Pregnancy (ONLY use if benefits justifies potential risk to foetus)
Side effects
- Anaphylaxis
- Chromaturia
- Erythema
- Rash (acne like)
- Hypertension
- Renal failure
- Headache
- Nausea and/vomiting
- Pain @ inj site
