Antipsychotic drug from the butyrophenone group that produces sedation
Metabolism
Hepatic metabolism with biliary/renal excretion as inactive metabolites
Indications
Acute behavioural disturbances (ABDs)
With SAT score ≥ 2
Contraindications
- Allergy and/or adverse drug reaction
- Parkinson’s disease
- Previous dystonic reaction to droperidol
- Pts <8yrs
Precautions
Concomitant use of CNS depressants
Side effects
Extrapyramidal effects e.g dystonic reactions

10mg/2ml vial
Onset
Duration
IV/IM 5-15min
Duration IV/IM 4-6hrs

Adult dosages
*Must consult ≥ 65 OR 13-15yrs
IM & IV
≥65yrs - 5mg
Repeated once @ 15min
Total max dose 10mg
16yrs-64yrs - 10mg
Repeated once @ 15min
Total max dose 20mg
13-15yrs - 0.1-0.2mg/kg
Single max dose 10mg
Repeated once @ 15min
Total max dose 20mg
Paediatric dosages
- Must consult in ALL situations
IM & IV
8-12yrs 0.1-0.2mg/kg
Single max dose 10mg
Repeated at 15min
Total max dose 20mg
