Pharmacology
A
Acts as an NMDA receptor antagonist & @ higher doses can bes used as an induction agent for anaesthesia. Minimal haemodynamic compromise as it acts as a sympathomimetic agent. At lower doses it produces significant analgesia while airway reflexes & respiratory drive are preserved

Indications
A
• Severe traumatic pain (followong morphine OR fentanyl) associated with:
- # reduction & splinting
- multiple or significant #s
- ongoing analgesia for tx
• Severe traumatic pain associated with burns (following morphine, fentanyl & midaz)
• Induction of anaesthesia
• Ongoing traumatic pain unresponsive to narcotics
• ABD SAT>2 unresponsive to droperidol max dose
