Drug class
Antiplatelet
Pharmacology
Specific & potent platelet aggregation inhibitor.
Selectively inhibits the binding of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) to its platelet receptor, thereby inhibiting platelet aggregation.
Metabolism
Hepatic metabolism with near equal amounts excreted in urine & faeces
Indications
For pts with STEMI (as defined by CPP); AND
• who have been accepted for pPCI (as an adjunct medication to aspirin & heparin) & the receiving cardiologist is requesting administration; OR
• who have received tenecteplase (& have been administered aspirin & enoxaparin
Contraindications
- Allergy and/or adverse drug reaction
- Pts contraindicated for pre-hosp fibrinolysis
- Current clopidogrel OR ticragelor therapy
- Pt <18yrs
- Active bleeding (excluding menses)
- Prior intracranial haemorrhage

Per oral (PO)
Adult Dosages
For pts with STEMI (as per CARC) who have been accepted for pPCI (as an adjunct med to aspirin & heparin) & the receiving cardiologist is requesting administration
▪︎ PO ≥ 18yrs 600mg
Swallowed with small amount of water
For pts with STEMI (as per CARC) who have received tenecteplase (& have been administered aspirin & enoxaparin
▪︎PO ≥ 18yrs 300mg
Swallowed with small amount of water
