Drug class
Anticoagulant
Pharmacology
Has several actions on the coagulation pathway through its binding to antithrombin III. The antithrombotic activity relates to the inhibition of thrombin generation & inhibition of coagulation factor Xa & thrombin
Metabolism
Heaptic but mostly eliminated unchanged
Indications
Pts with STEMI (as per CARC) who have received QAS tenecteplase (as an adjunct medication to aspirin & clopidogrel)
Contraindications
- Allergy and/or adverse drug reaction
* Pts contraindicated for pre-hosp fibrinolysis administration
Precautions
- Renal/hepatic impairment
- Low bodyweight (women < 45kg & men <57kg)
- Older people
Side effects
- Haemorrhage
* Thrombocytopenia
Presentation
- Injection 60mg/0.6ml pre-filled syringe
* Injection 100mg/1ml pre-filled syringe

SUBCUT

Adult dosages

IV - loading dose 30mg
*All IV admins must use 60mg/0.6ml (use markings & air bubble is NOT to be admin)
SUBCUT - 1mg/kg
15min after loading dose
Single dose only, not to exceed 100mg
*Use 100mg/1ml, needle down, bottom of air bubble level with correct marking, air bubble req to be admin
