Human disease L28: Biologics Flashcards
Biologics are composed of three types of drugs, what are they?
Cytokines
Fusion proteins
monoclonal antibodies
why do biologics not elicit an immune respone?
because they do not carry any antigenic segments.
is erythropoietin a cytokine
yes
is a glycoprotein cytokine secreted mainly by the ………………… in response to cellular hypoxia; it stimulates red blood cell production in the bone marrow
kidney
are proteins created through the joining of two or more genes that originally coded for separate proteins. Translation of this fusion gene results in a single or multiple polypeptides with functional properties derived from each of the original proteins
what is the name of the protein
fusion proteins
what type of antibodies target a specific antigen
monoclonal antibodies
there are four types of monoclonal antibodies, what are they
murine: entirely derived from a murine source. they can lead lead to an allergic reaction in humans.
Chimeric: the variable regions are of murine origins whereas the constant regions are human. these can also cause an allergy
Humanized: mostly derived fromm a human source except for the part of the antibody which binds to its target
Human: entirely derived from a human source
which monoclonal antibody is completely derived from a mice or related rodent
murine antibody
which monoclonal antibody has its variable regions derived from murine origins, whereas the constant regions are human
chimeric
which monoclonal antibody is mostly derived from a human source except for the part of the antibody which binds to its target
humanized
which monoclonal antibody is entirely derived from a human source
human - monoclonal antibody
how many failed therapy must a patient have with DMARDS in order to be put on monoclonal antibody therapy
at least two DMARDS
under what condition can a patient skip DMARDs and go straight to monoclonal antibody therapy
patients with severe Rheumatoid Arthritis
adalimumab
certolizumab
infliximab
golimumab
the drugs listed above end with MAB, what does this mean
they are all Monoclonal AntiBodies
