Homeostasis Flashcards
1
Q
Define homeostasis
A
the maintenance of a constant internal environment despite internal or external changes.
2
Q
Describe a negative feedback system
A
a mechanism for reversing a change so that it returns back to the optimum
3
Q
Describe a positive feedback system
A
a deviation from the optimum which causes
changes resulting in an even greater deviation from the norm. This is usually harmful due to the large, unstable change in the body
4
Q
What is the role of a receptor?
A
detect a change
5
Q
What is the role of coordinators?
A
transmit the information
6
Q
What is the role of effectors?
A
bring about a response
7
Q
Describe the arc that will lead to a response if homeostasis is disturbed
A
- stimulus
- receptor
- co-ordinator
- effector
- responce
