Neurones and Resting Potential Flashcards
1
Q
What is the role of the sensory neurones?
A
transmit information from sensory receptors to the CNS
2
Q
What is the role of the relay neurones?
A
carry electrical signals from sensor neurones to motor neurones
3
Q
What is the role of the motor neurones?
A
transmit information to effectors
4
Q
What is the resting potential?
A
the difference in electrical charge across the membrane while the neurone is at rest
5
Q
How is an action potential propagated along an axon, starting t the neurone?
A
- The sodium-potassium pump uses ATP to pump 3 sodium (Na+) ions out of the cell and 2 potassium (K+) ions into the cell. 2. The membrane is permeable to K+ but impermeable to Na+ ions this is an electrochemical gradient.
6
Q
What is the charge of a cell with an action potential?
A
-70mV
7
Q
What type of neurone is this?
A
sensory neurone
