The urothelium extends from where to where?
Minor calyx to parts of urethra

What cells are shown in the image?
What shape are they?
Describe their nucei.

What cells are shown?
Describe location / shape of nuclei.
What are these cells?

What cells are shown?
Describe their nuclei.

What 2 cell populations are shown?
Describe their cellular origins.
Describe their nuclei.

What cells are shown?
What is their function?

What tissues are shown?

What type of tissue is this? Also:
- Type of epithelium
- Surface speciaization (if any)
- Function of this structure?

- Efferent ductules
- Pseudostratified epithelium that is clumps of tall and short columnar cells that give apical membrane a “wavy” appearance
- Taller cells = ciliated, shorter contain microvilli, canalicular invaginations, vesicles, lysosomes, etc.
- Most of the fluid secreted by seminiferous tubules is reabsorbed in efferent ductules –> draws fluid and sperm out of testis

- What type of tissue is this?
- Describe epithelium
- What 2 cell populations are seen?
- What is the most striking feature?

- Epididymis
- Tall, pseudostratified columnar epithelium
- Cells
- Principal –> numerous long stereocilia extending into lumen
- Basal –> small round at basal lamina that are stem cells for duct epithelium
- Principal cells have large apical golgi apparatus –> lighter staining

- What tissue is shown?
- Describe the epithelium and surface specializations (if any).

Vas Deferens
Pseudostratified epithelium with tall columnar cells with apical microvilli

- What tissue is shown?
- Key striking feature of this tissue?
- Describe epithelium
- Describe secretions and function.

- Seminal vesicle
- Highly folded, tubular gland with numerous elaborate folds that increase secretory surface area
- Pseudostratified, non-ciliated epithelium, protein secreting cells with well developed rough ER and lots of secretory vesicles in cytoplasm
- Whitish yellow contains fructose as metabolic substance for sperm

- What tissue is shown?
- What is the epithelium like?
- What is the key striking feature of this tissue?

- Prostate gland (note: fibromuscular stroma occupies most of anterior surface of prostate, dense CT and smooth muscle)
- Simple columnar with some areas of cuboidal or pseudostratified epithelium
- Concretions - lamellated bodies that consist of calcified precipitate

What tissue is this?

The penile urethra passes through the […]
Corpus spongiosum
The […] binds the corpus cavernosi and the corpus spongiosum together. (in the penis)
Tunica albuginea

The folds of the fallopian tube are lined with […] epithelium that is composed of what 2 cell types?
Simple columnar
Ciliated cells (more numerous) and Peg cells (secrete fluid and nutritive material for ovum)

Describe the lining of the external cervix and the cervical canal.
The external surface of the cervix is covered with stratified squamous epithelium while the cervical canal is lined with simple columnar epithelium. The transition between these 2 is abrupt.
