what are the HCPC guidelines
they provide legal regulation for psychologists since 2009
they are here to produce public protection and ensure good practice
what do the standards of the HCPC relate to?
character, health, conduct, performance and ethics
what is the health standard?
any issues with health should not affect their ability to do their job
must give all info on health every two years
let the council know if they are unable to do practise because of health
what is the 3.2 guideline?
health
understand importance of maintaining their own health
what s the proficiency standard?
a set of expectations for each area of practise that they must meet in order to ensure that they practise effectively
what is guideline 2.0?
practise
they must practise within the legal boundaries of their profession
what is the CPD standard?
continuing professional development
they are expected to take part in regular training to keep their knowledge up to date
what is the prescribing standard?
outlines the required knowledge needed and training to be able to prescribe and standards of safe practise when doing so
guideine 1.1?
limits
know the limits of their practise and when to seek advice
what is the character standard?
provide a character reference from someone who has known them for three plus years and declare any criminal convictions
what is the guideline for clinical psychologists only?
understand more than one evidence based model of psychological therapy
what is the education an training standards?
sets out the minimum qualifications needed
at least a masters degree in the area of practise or a doctorate
and provides standards of training
what is the conduct standards?
sets out standards to act in the best interests if the user 13.10
what is guideline 7.1?
be aware of the limits of the concept confidentiality
what is a weakness with CPD?
psychology is being constantly updated and is not one single paradigm so it is unlikely that they will ever be up to date
