Information systems dedicated to medical facilities are known as
Hospital Information Systems (HIS)
There are three broad types of HIS
administrative, semi- clinical, and clinical
handle non-medical management issues such as payroll.
Administrative
Tracks the flow of patients into and out of the hospital.
Semi-clinical
Performs order-entry results reporting.
Semi- clinical
information is entered directly into the system at the patient’s bedside rather than having the information transcribed from written notes.
Point of service (POS)
there are many systems currently available that support healthcare facility issues such as laboratory, pharmacy, and radiology.
Specialty Support Programs
The following are the major internal types of hardware of all computers:
Motherboard
Central processing unit (CPU)
Control units
usually housed inside a plastic case, but there may be components that exist outside of the case.

usually houses the motherboard, microchips, processors, and electronic circuits that carry out the computer’s primary functions.
Computer case
a thin piece of non-conducting plastic onto which the computer’s circuits are printed.

has areas where chips are mounted and slots are placed which allow the addition of other pieces of hardware.

comprised of different unit types: arithmetic, logic, control, and memory.
Central processing unit (CPU)
perform fetch, execute, decode, and store functions based on the computer’s machine language.

This term encompasses the hardware that is connected to the computer to make it fully functional.
