Verbal Guidance
A
- Used to describe action and explain how to perform activity.
- Usually given with visual as motor skills difficult to describe without demo
- So limited value on its own for beginners but useful for assoc/auton

- Can be in the form of feedback –> reinforce good movement / identify errors
- Can hold attention of performers / motivate them

- Info overload –> distracted / confused
- Could be inaccurate –> performer may not develop skills correctly

A
- Most common for teaching motor skills
- Helps create mental image
- Must be accurate

- Makes creating mental picture easy
- Enables skill to be seen in different stages = easier to learn/develop
- Encourages observational learning –> draws attention to important cues

- If demo incorrect –> learn bad habits / hinder development
- Coach may not be able to show accurate demo
- Demo may be unclear / too quick to follow

Physical support for performers by another person/mechanical device

E.g. armbands

Forced Response
E.g. holding arms of golfer forcing arms through movement of drive

What do manual/mechanical do
A
- Reduce fear in dangerous situes
- Learner can grow in confidence as percieve they are safe
- Provides feel of kinaesthetic movement

- Greater sense of safety –> help with confidence
- Can isolate parts of skill to practice sub routines(swimming floats)

- Can feel over restrictive –> performer feels lack of control
- False sense of kinaesthesis –> not getting feeling if body restricted
