Arousal Flashcards

1
Q

Q

Drive theory

A
  • Performance increases in proportion to arousal
  • High arousal = high performance
  • P=f(HD)
  • If dominant response correct, performance enhanced
  • Drive reduction = drive reduced when individuals lose motivation

Q

Inverted U Theory

A
  • Optimal level of arousal
  • If over aroused, become anxious and performance declines
  • Not Physic/Psycho ready to perform
  • Sport specific
  • More skilled = higher arousal
  • More extrovert = higher arousal for optimum performance

Q

Catastrophe Theory

A
  • Dramatic decline in performance when arousal above optimal
  • Somatic arousal
  • Cognitive arousal
  • High S & C = rapid decrease in performance
  • High C + low S = performance can recover
