Group dynamics Flashcards
What raises the comparison between groups?
Intergroup bias
How must comparison end?
It must end positively so that one can define oneself positively and so humans need to win these comparisons
What happens when humans lose comparison?
They shift the goal of comparison. Humans would fix the situation by making excuses. The phenomenon of making excuses is a way to start distorting reality. This cognitive distortion has a specific direction, favouring yourself.
What happens when a member of a group has a negative and severe behaviour?
The group will move to exclude that member by distancing themselves, to fulfill their aim of preserving the value of the group
Definition of intergroup bias
Refers to the processes that distort reality and this distorts the way in which humans evaluate their or other groups
Definition of in-group favouritism
finding excuses for a memeber fo the group to save the reputation of the group itself
Definition of out-groups dis-favouritism
the group will start to view as exaggeratedly negative the action of a member fo the other group
Definition of perceived differences among members of a group are minimised
when you feel part of a group you feel more like the members of the group in respect to other people

2. out-groups dis-favouritism
