GRADES Flashcards
what are the different stages and grades in noticed hallux rigidus?
grade 1, stage 1=stage of functional limits
grade 2, stage 2=stage of joint adaptation
grade 3, stage 3=stage of established arthritis
grade 4. stage 4=stage of ankylosis
what grade?
hallux equinus/flexus
plantar subluxation proximal phalanx
metatarsus primus elevatus
joint dorsiflexion
no degenerative joint changes noted radiographically
hyperextension of the hallucal interphalangeal joint
protonatory architexture
*joint is normal but has reduced ROM in RCSP;NCSP (corrected) normal ROM
grade 1
what grade?
flattening of the first metatarsal head
osteochondral defect/lesion
cartilage fibrillation
pain on end ROM
passive ROM may be limited
small dorsal exostosis
subchondral eburnation
periarticular lipping of the proximal phalanx
*starting to wear away at the joint
grade II
what grade?
severe flattening
osteophytosis
asymmetric narrowing of the joint space
degeneration of articular cartilage
erosions
crepitus
subcentral cysts
pain on full ROM
associated inflammatory joint flares
*significant lack of ROM, painful, treated with fusion, cheilectomy, implant
grade III
what grade?
obliteration of joint space
exuberant osteophytosis
deformity and/or malalignment
total ankylosis may occur
inflammatory joint flares possible
local pain is most likely secondary
*not as painful as grade 3, fusion most likely, no pain then leave it alone
grade IV
