What is the definition of Government legislation ?
The laws, rules and regulations put into place by the government to manage and regulate the travel and tourism sectors / industry.
What are some examples of government legislation ?
airport tax / APD (Air Passenger Duty), passport and visa requirements, data protection requirements, health and safety etc.
What are the advantages / disadvantages of health and safety regulations?
It ensures a safe travel experience reducing accidents and health risks, improves the reputation and sustainability of tourism destinations.
However to be able to comply to all of the health and safety regulations more revenue will have to be invested into training and infrastructure and excessive regulations can be a burden for small businesses.
What are the advantages / disadvantages of airport tax (APD) ?
Provides funding for airport infrastructure as airport taxes help to generate profit that supports construction and maintenance of terminals, runways etc. , improved security measures such as improved / new technology, hiring / more security staff, screening equipment e.g. x- rays etc.
However, taxes can also cause an increase in travel costs, which tends to be added on to the price of tickets making travelling / holidays more expensive, there can be competition around airports and how much tax they charge as those airports that charge less tax will receive more customers.
What are the advantages / disadvantages of passport visa / requirements ?
Helps to protect national security and helps to manage the influx of people into / out of the country, can encourage tourism by offering visa policies that can attract international visitors.
However, strict visa policies can deter tourists and reduce profit made from tourism and the customers, complex visa regulations can be a barrier for travelers.
What are the advantages / disadvantages of data protection requirements ?
Customers are more likely to trust companies that ensure data protection which can improve customer satisfaction, loyalty and attract more customers, Data protection laws encourage all companies installing strong cybersecurity practices to help to prevent data breaches, protecting both the company and customers from financial loss, penalties, reputation damage.
However, ensuring data privacy may lead to delays in customer service or booking processes, and data protection regulations require businesses to limit access to personal data, manage it securely, and delete it after a certain period. This can complicate internal processes, especially in large organizations or when having to handle large volumes of customer data.
