What are the benefits to BWV?
Securing of complementary video evidence
Increased user op safety
Early resolution before courts
Reducing use of force incidents
Reduction in frivolous complaints
Maintaining and inspiring public confidence
Improve efficiency of the resolution of complaints against police
When is BWV to be used?
- interactions between users and MOP
- Must be activated ASAP where:
- Face to face interactions that occur with public in the course of a users duty
- It would provide corroborative evidence when no one is present
- Recording a DVEC
What are the guidelines for using BWV?
Activate as soon as practicable prior to commencing an interaction
All BWV users present at police-related event will activate regardless of the presence of other BWV cameras
Not considered a suitable substitute for 74D
Announce to others around the BWV has been activated
When safe, announce to subject the camera has been activated
Record any interruptions in notebook
User maintains decision to terminate BWV
Cannot b e used for HRD
Images obtained are not to be uploaded to person descriptions in SHIELD
When does BWV not need to be tagged?
Expiations unless it will amount to evidence on suspicion the matter is likely to be contested or result in complaint against police
Adult caution for same reasons as above
When will BWV be excluded?
victim interview when investigating rape or SA allegations
Intimate forensic procedure
Discussions between offenders and legal representation
Interactions which could identify a human source
Discussions between emergency service personnel
Situations that may reveal police, investigative or tactical techniques
Briefings or debriefs
When must footage be tagged?
within two working shifts if it is to be retained
