what is IBS?
Is a GI condition that causes disorders such as stomach pain, and alterations in BM. The causes are uncertain and can be related to diet and nutrition, bacteria (infection) and moods (anxiety).
What is IBD?
It is a collection of GI disorders such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis. Onset is from 15-25yrs. Causes can be linked to GI inflammatory response or genetics. Prone to colon cancer.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome: S+S
Constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain, flatus, bloating.
IBS Diagnosis/ Assessment
Blood tests (underlying issues related)
Stool samples (bacteria), endoscopic investigations like colonoscopy, discussions about diet and nutrition, and health history.
IBS Management
Physical activity, fibre (diet/ nutrition) knowledge of triggers, Antibiotics, laxatives, anti-diarrhoea meds, pain relief, Reduction of alcohol and certain foods.
Suport and education.
IBD S+S (Crohn/ Ulcerative Colitis)
Crohn’s: Nausea, pain, weight loss, diarrhea and bleeding.
Ulcerative colitis: Blood in stool, mucus stool, loss of appetite, pain.
IBD diagnosis/ assessment
Colonoscopy, Xrays, HX, Bowel sounds, physical examination, Stool sample, bloods.
IBD: Management
Diet: Avoid food that cause gas (Dairy, nuts, Alcohol, caffeine) Vitamins and supplements, Clear fluids and proteins
Medications: Corticosteroids, Immunosuppressant, Anti-diarrhea
Procedures: Colectomy (removal of the colon) Ileostomy (ileum stoma)
IBD: what is Crohn’s disease and Ulcerative colitis?
Crohn’s: the inflammation of parts of the GI (can be throughout the GI tract).
Ulcerative colitis: Continous inflammation of the colon.
What are is Hepatis and the S+S??
Inflammation of the liver caused by viral, bacteria and hepatoxic medications. There var different viral types (ABCDE)
S+S Jaundice, flu like symptoms, dark urine. vomiting.

What is acute Pancreatitis?
S+S
Interventions
Sudden inflammation of the pancreas caused immune response. When the pancreas starts auto-digestion
EG Exocrine- asinaor cells (amylase, Lipase and protases stay in the pancreatic duct.
Endocrine- Islets of Langerhans (insulin, glucagon and statins) Affected.
S+S hyperlipemia, Increased BGL, Nausea vomiting, fever
IV fluids, monitor BGL, Pain.
what is Cholelithiasis ?
Gallstones located in the Gall bladder is made by too much cholesterol, bile salts, or bilirubin.
