What is cancer?
Cancer is a condition where a gene alteration causes abnormal cell growth.

What are some common s+s of cancer
Sores/ wounds (don’t heal), abnormal lumps on tissue, indigestion, unusual bleeding.
What are some diagnostic tests?
CT scan, mammogram, pap smear, rectal exam, biopsy.
What are some cancer treatments?
Radiation- Targets cancer cells with minimal exposure to other cells.
Chemotherapy- Uses powerful chemicals to target any cells that rapidly divide.
What are the complications of cancer?
Severe/ unmanageable side effects, cancer metastasises, infection.
Chemo risks/ side effects?
Common- Nausea, vomiting, hair loss, loss of appetite, fatigue, oral mucositis (mouth sores, dryness) Dermatitis (skin drying)
Chemo targets cells that generate faster, such as mucus membranes and skin.
Diahorea, constipation, pain.
Long-lasting side effects of chemo?
Infertility, damage to lung tissue, heart problems.
Preparation for chemo?
Blood tests (kidney and heart function), dental checks, and plans for side effects.
What are the forms of chemo?

Consideration while administering chemo?
infusion, cream, pills.
Wear PPE and if the pt is sharing a room precautions around that.
What does TNM stand for and used in cancer?
T - Indicates the size and extent of the primary tumour.
N - Indicates whether the cancer has spread to the lymph nodes and how many are affected.
M - Indicates whether the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
