Gastrointestinal System Flashcards
What are components of the upper G.I.
mouth- initiation or mechanical and chemical digestion
esophagus- food transport from mouth to stomach
stomach- grinds food, secretes HCL, release of digestive enzymes from liver gallbladder and pancreas
What are components of the lower GI small intestine
duodenum - neutralizes acidic food will gallbladder bile
jejunum- absorbs water, electrolytes and nutrients
ileum - absorbs bile and intrinsic factors to be recycled
What are components of the lower GI large intestine
Ascending colon transverse colon descending colon sigmoid colon rectum anus
what are the gland organs in the GI
gallbladder - releases bile into duodenum to help with digestion
liver - produces bile, for absorption of lipids, RBC and vitamin K, serum level of carbs proteins and fats
endocrine pancreas- secretes bicarb and digestive enzymes into duodenum
exocrine pancreas- secretes insulin, glucagon, to reg glucose
anastomosis
joining of 2 blood vessels, or bowel segments to allow flow from segments.
ascites
fluid in peritoneal cavity causing abdomen swelling.
What muscles of the pelvic floor are in the pelvic diaphragm
Levator Ani: pubococcygeus, puborectalis, iliococcygeus, and coccygeus (ischi)o coccygeus
Urogenital diaphragm will include which muscles of the pelvic floor
deep transverse perineal and urethrae sphincter
Urogenital triangle will include which muscles of the pelvic floor
Female: bulbocavernosus, ischiocavernosus, superficial transverse perineal.
Male: bulbospongiosus, ischiocavernosus, superficial transverse perineal
Anal triangle will include which muscles of the pelvic floor
internal anal sphincter, external anal sphincter
The difference between ureters and the urethra
Your orders are muscular tube that connects the kidneys to the bladder to transport urine.
Urethra is a tube that excretes urine or transport to Semen for ejaculation in males
The function of the kidneys
Remove water salt metabolic waste from blood through urine excretion.
Maintain homeostasis with acid base balance, electrolyte regulation, blood volume control, BP regulation by hormones
What is considered to be a Anuria
Less than 100 mL of urine output in 24 hours. Severe dehydration shock end stage renal disease
when is benign prosthetic hypertrophy most commonly seen in men
over 60
Non-cancerous enlargement of prostate gland that is progressive can interfere with avoiding
What is the most common site for an a topic pregnancy
Fallopian tube. Implantation of a fertilized ova outside of the uterus
