Fungi Flashcards
What are examples of kingdom fungi?
Mushrooms, toadstools, yeast & mould
Why is fungi like plants?
They have a cell wall
Why is fungi like animals?
They are heterotrophs
What are multicellular fungi made up of?
Hyphae: a network of fine filaments
Where is the majority of the fungi found?
Underground
What is the form of fungi underground?
A loose branching network of hyphae called mycelium
What is the structure of septa/septum?
Species of hyphae divided into cells by cross walls, each cell has one or more nuclei
What is the function of septa/septum?
are porous & allow movement of cytoplasm to flow through hyphae into cell
What is the cell wall of fungi made of?
Chitin
What are saprotrophs?
Breaks down decaying matter, recycles nutrients
