Gui Zhi Fu Ling Wan
“Cinnamon twig and poria pill”
Ingredients:
Gui Zhi (5g), Fu Ling (6g), Mu Dan Pi (6g), Bai Shao (6g), Tao Ren (6g), Bai Mi
Function:
Invigorates blood, transforms blood stasis, and reduces fixed abdominal masses
Indication:
Blood stasis in uterine syndrome
Mild, persistent uterine bleeding of purple or dark blood during pregnancy accompanied by abdominal pain that increases with pressure.
Tongue:
Pulse: any, choppy
Clinical applications:
1. Used to treat dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, lochia retention, difficult labor, and dead fetus due to blood stasis in uterus.
2. Used for dysmenorrhea, leiomyoma, cervical erosion, ovarian cysts, endometriosis, lochioschesis, ecopic pregnancy and polycystic ovaries.
C/C:
Caution during pregnancy or postpartum
Dang Gui Shao Yao San
“Tangkuei and peony powder”
Ingredients:
Dang Gui (9g), Shao Yao (48g), Chuan Xiong (24g), Bai Zhu (12g), Fu Ling (12g), Ze Xie (24g)
Functions:
Nourishes the blood, regulates LV qi, strenghtens SP, resolves dampness
Indications:
Abdominal pain due to disharmony between LV and SP syndrome
Mild, abdominal pain that decreases with pressure, dizziness, urinary difficulty, and lower limbs slight edema; such pain can occur during pregnancy
Tongue: pink, red, white and greasy coating
Pulse: Soggy, soft and slow
Clinical applications:
1. Used to treat pain due to mixed pattern of deficiency and excess where LV and SP deficiency are complicated by blood stasis and accumulating dampness.
2. Used for dysmenorrhea, habitual miscarriage, postpartum depression, perimenopausal syndrome, pregnancy edema, polycystic ovaries, and infertility.
3. Used for hypertension, benign prostatic hypertrophy, chronic appendicitis, chronic hepatitis, cholecystitis, and senile dementia.
Modification:
- KD xu lower back soreness -> add Shu Di, Du Zhong, Sang Ji Sheng
- SP qi xu loose stool -> add Dang Sheng, Shan Yao, Bai Bian Dou
- LV qi stagnation -> add Chai Hu, Xiang Fu
- Prostitis ->with Dao Chi San
C/C:
Caution during pregnancy, particularly ith mothers who have deficient and weak KD qi.
Wen Jing Tang
“Warming the flow decoction”
Ingredients:
Wu Zhu Yu (9g), Gui Zhi (6g), Dang Gui (6g), Bai Shao (6g), Chuan Xiong (6g), Mu Dan Pi (6g), E Jiao (6g), Mai Men Dong (9g), Ren Shen (6g), Gan Cao (6g), Sheng Jiang (6g), Ban Xia (6g)
Function:
Warms the channels, disperses the cold, activates blood, and nourishes the blood
Indication:
Ren & Chong channel deficiency cold with blood stasis syndrome
Mild & persistent uterine bleeding, irregular menstruation either early or late, a twice a month or stopped period, or infertility, pain, distention and cold in the lower abdomen, dry lips and mouth with low-grade fever at dusk and warm five palms.
Clinical applications:
1. Used for Chong and Ren deficiency and cold due to blood stagnation and regulates menses such as irregular menses.
Modifications:
1. Severe cold pain in lower abdomen -> omit Mu Dan Pi, add Ai Ye
2. Qi stagnation -> add Xiang Fu, Wu Yao
For persistent uterine bleeding with pale color -> omit Mu Dan Pi, add Ai Ye and Di Huang
C/C:
Cases with abdominal masses due to blood stasis from excess.
Sheng Hua Tang
“Generating and transforming decoction”
Ingredients:
Dang Gui (24g), Chuan Xiong (9g), Tao Ren (6g), Pao Jiang (2g), Zhi Gan Cao (2g), Huang Jiu, Tong Niao
Functions:
Invigorates ans dispels blood stasis, generates new blood, warms collaterals, and alleviates pain
Indications:
POSTPARTUM abdominal pain due to blood stagnation syndrome
Retention of lochia with cold and pain in lower abdomen.
Tongue: pale-purple with purple spots
Pulse: thin, submerged and choppy
Clinical applications:
1. Takes during postpartum period
2. Used for retention of placental fragments within the uterus, lochioschesis, painful postpartum uterine contractions, and chronic endometriosis.
Modifications:
1. Severe abdominal pain due to rentention of blood -> add Pu Huang, Wu Ling Zhi, Yan Hu Suo
2. For abd pain due to excess cold -> add Rou Gui
C/C:
