Yu Ping Feng San
“Jade Windscreen powder”
Ingredients:
Huang Qi (Zhi) (12g), Bai Zhu (12g), Fang Feng (6g), (Da Zao 1pc)
Functions:
Augments qi, stabilizes the exterior, and stops sweating.
Indications:
Wei qi deficiency with spontaneous sweating
Spontaneous sweating with aversion to cold, aversion to draft, pale complexion, and recurrent cold.
Tongue: pale, white tongue
Pulse: floating, deficient, and soft
Clinical applications:
1. Used for exterior deficiency with weak and unstable wei qi.
2. Used for acute upper respiratory tract infection, bronchitis, allergic rhinitis, autonomic dystonia, and nephritis with recurrent cold.
Modifications:
For persistent sweating = add Fu Xiao Mai, Ma Huang Gen
C/C:
Night sweats due to yin xu.
Mu Li San
“Oyster shell powder”
Ingredients:
Mu Li (Duan) (30g), Huang Qi (30g), Ma Huang Gen (9g), Xiao Mai (100pcs)
Functions:
Augments the qi, stabilizes the exterior, astringes the yin, and stops sweating.
Indications:
Night sweats and/or spontaneous sweating syndrome.
Spontaneous sweating that worsens at night, palpitations, easily startled, shortness of breath, irritability, and lethargy.
Tongue: pale red
Pulse: thin, frail
Clinical applications:
1. Used for night sweats and/or spontaneous sweating associating with wei qi not binding the yin fluids.
2. Used for spontaneous sweating or night sweats happened in postpartum, post-surgery, and post-illness.
Modifications:
1. For yang xu = add Fu Zi
2. For qi xu sweating = add Ren Shen, Bai Zhu
3. For yin xu sweatng = add Sheng Di, Bai Shao
4. For severe spontaneous sweating = increase Huang Qi
C/C:
The conditions are profuse, oily sweating associated with exhaustion of the yin or yang.
Jiu Xian San
“Nine immortal powder”
Ingredients:
Ying Su Ke (15g), Ren Shen (10g), Wu Wei Zi (10g),
Wu Mei (10g), E Jiao (10g), Kuan Dong Hua (10g),
Sang Bai Pi (10g), Bei Mu (5g), Jie Geng (10g)
Function:
Augments the qi, astringes the LU, stops coughing, and nourishes the yin.
Indications:
Chronic cough with LU qi deficiency syndrome
Chronic, unremitting cough with wheezing, a shiny-white complexion, SOB, and spontaneous sweating.
Tongue:
Pulse: deficient, rapid
Clinical applications:
1. Chronic coughing will exhaust both qi and yin of the LU, which causes more coughing.
2. Currently used for chronic bronchitis, asthma, emphysema silicosis, or pulmonary TB.
C/C:
Taking for a long-term.
