Gui Pi Tang
“Restore the SP Decoction”
Ingredients:
Huang Qi (12g), Long Yan Rou (12g), Dang Gui (9g), Suan Zao Ren (12g), Yuan Zhi (6g), Mu Xiang (6g) + Ren Shen (6g), Bai Zhu (9g), Fu Shen (9g), Zhi Gan Cao (3g)
Functions:
Augments qi, nourishes blood, strengthens SP, nourishes HT
Indications:
1. Sp & HT are both qi & blood deficiency syndromes (palpitations, anxiety, phobia, forgetfulness, insomnia, night sweating, reduced appetite)
2. SP fails to control the blood syndromes (blood in stool, purpura, uterine bleeding (Beng Lou Symdrome)
Tongue:
Pale tongue, thin white coating
Pulse: thin, frail
Clinical applications:
1. Used for restless HT spirit, qi and blood xu, inability of SP to control blood.
2. Used for ST or peptic ulcer bleeding, uterine bleeding, leukorrhea.
C/C:
Tidy fever from yin xu or internal-heat bleeding.
Dang Gui Bu Xue Tang
“Tangkuei decoction to tonify blood”
Ingredients:
Huang Qi (30g), Dang Gui (6g)
Functions:
Tonify the qi and generates the blood
Indication:
1. Blood xu heat syndrome
Hot sensations in the muscles, red face, irritability, thirst with desire for warm drinks.
Tongue: pale tongue
Pulse: flooding, large, and deficient
Clinical applications:
1. Treats consumptive fatigue due to internal injury, weak source qi and blood xu.
2. Used for bleeding associated with qi xu unable to control the blood, and yin type ulcers caused by weakness of protective qi and blood that inhibits healing.
3. For anemia, allergic purpura, uterine bleeding.
C/C:
Tidal fever from yin xu.
Zhi Gan Cao Tang
“Restore the pulse decoction”
Ingredients:
Zhi Gan Cao (12g), Ren Shen (6g), Sheng Di Huang (30g), Da Zao (5-10pcs), Mai Men Dong (10g), E Jiao (6g),
Huo Ma Ren (10g), Gui Zhi (9g), Sheng Jiang (9g), Qing Jiu
Functions:
Augments qi, nourishes yin, tonifies blood, restores the pulse.
Indications:
1. Qi and blood xu (knotted pulse, intermittent pulse, palpitations with anxiety, irritability, insomnia, SOB, constipation, dry mouth and throat).
2. LU atrophy due to consumption (dry cough, no sputum, threadlike blood in sputum, SOB, insomnia, night sweats, dry mouth, dry stool.
Clinical applications:
1. Used for irregular pulses with throbbing palpitations and dry cough.
2. Used for supraventricular arrythmia, rheumatic HT disease, hyperthyroidism.
Ba Zhen Tang
“Eight treasure decoction”
Ingredients:
Ren Shen (9g), Bai Zhu (9g), Fu Ling (9g), Zhi Gan Cao (5g), Shu Di Huang (9g), Dang Gui (9g), Bai Shao (9g), Chuan Xiong
= Si Jun Zi Tang + Si Wu Tang
Functions:
Augments qi, tonifies blood
Indication:
Qi and blood deficiency syndromes (pallid or shallow complexion, palpitations, reduced appetite, SOB, laconic speech).
Tongue: pale tongue, white coating
Pulse: either thin and frail or large, deficient w/o strength.
Clinical applications:
1. Used for concurrent qi and blood xu due to imbalances caused by chronic disease or excessive loss of blood.
2. Postpartum anemia or nervous exhaustion.
Shi Quan Da Bu Tang
“All (ten) inclusive great tonifying decoction”
Ingredients:
Ren Shen (6g), Bai Zhu (9g), Fu Ling (9g), Zhi Gan Cao (3g), Dang Gui (9g), bai Shao (9g), Shu Di Huang (12g), Chuan Xiong (6g), Huang Qi (12g), Rou Gui (3g)
Si Jun Zi Tang + Si Wu Tang + Huang Qi & Rou Gui
Function:
Warms and tonifies the qi and blood.
Indications:
Qi and blood xu with cold syndromes
Pallid or shallow complexion, reduced appetite, spermatorrhea, weakness of the lower extremities, nonhealing sores, spotting from uterine bleeding.

Clinical applications:
1. Common for blood and qi deficiency with deficient of qi tending toward cold.
2. Anemia, nervous exhaustion, nonhealing ulcers.
Tai Shan Pan Shi San
“Taishan bedrock powder”
-> 12 herbs
Ingredients:
Ren Shen (3-5g), Huang Qi (15g), Bai Zhu (10g), Zhi Gan Cao (4g), Dang Gui (8g), Bai Shao (6g), Shu Di Huang (10g), Chuan Xiong (4g), Xu Duan (5g), Huang Qin (5g), Sha Ren (4g), Nuo Mi (5g)
Functions:
Augments the qi, nourishes the blood, strengthens KD and SP, calms fetus
Indications:
Pregnant woman with qi and blood deficiency syndrome
(Restless fetus, threatened miscarriage, habitual miscarriage with with pale face, fatigue and loss of appetite)
Tongue: pale, thin, slippery coating
Pulse: slipperty, forceless, submerged, frail
Clinical applications:
1. This is a formula also for women with qi and blood deficiency and a history of miscarriage who desire to get pregnant.
Modifications: to prevent miscarriage, use 1 x wk from 2nd to 4th or 5th month of pregnancy.
