Formation Test Flashcards
What are #1’s responsibilites?
Clear for the formation
Plan for the formation
Monitor #2
Navigate
Communicate
What are #2’s responsibilities?
Don’t hit #1 (deconflict)
Keep #1 in sight
Be in position and on frequency
Clear for the formation
Backup #1
Radio calls should be CCC:
Clear, Concise, Correct
Lead has the Squawk/TAS for the formation. During a lead change?
Responsibility follows the Lead during a lead change
What is the difference between “push” and “go”?
“Go” requires a response
How to do a frequency change using visual signals (if you’re #1)?
Fist to head
Show number with fingers
How to respond to frequency change using visual signals (if you’re #2)?
(Initiate, change, check in)
#1 initiates
#2 acknowledges (head nod) and moves to route if VMC
#1 checks in on the new frequency
Once checked in on the new frequency, #2?
moves back into fingertip (from route)
How do you change frequency in IMC?
2 stays in fingertip
Use the “crew concept” (1 crewmember flies, 1 crewmember changes the freq)
Callsigns include?
a name prefix and 2 digit suffix
What happens to callsigns after a flight split?
the callsign stays with the tail number and should match what is input into the flight ID
On initial contact with ATC you must include?
“flight” with the callsign
External radio calls require use of?
Callsign name
Internal radio calls?
Can be abbreviated (but #2 mimics #1)
What are pros and cons of using visual signals?
Pro: reduced radio traffic (or when NORDO)
Con: Vague, takes time, hard to see
Visual signals (are/are not) optimal in an emergency?
NOT optimal unless the emergency requires the use of visual signals
How will #2 acknowledge visual signals?
Head Nod (or go to directed position)
