Have strong grasp reflex.
Can differentiate faces or objects.
Regard a human face in the midline of vision (about 18 inches away).
1 MONTH
Hold objects for a few minutes before dropping them.
Has “social smile”.
Can focus well and follow objects with eyes.
2 MONTHS
Can reach out attractive objects in front of them.
Has increased social awareness, smiling at sight of parents, LOL at funny faces.
Can follow objects across their midline. Holds hands in front of their face (HAND REGARD).
3 MONTHS
Can bring hands together, can shake a rattle when placed in their hands.
Thumb opposition – can bring thumb and finger together (scoping/raking)
Plantar and palmar grasp.
Likely to cry when parent caregiver leaves. Recognizes mother/caregiver and prefers that prefer that person’s presence.
Recognizes familiar objects(faces, nettle, toy)
Follows their parents movement with their eyes eagerly.
4 MONTHS
Can grasp with the whole hands.
Show displeasure when an object is taken away from them.
5 MONTHS
Can holds objects in both hands, can hold a spoon to feed themselves
Aware of the difference, between parent/caregiver and strangers may draw back from unfamiliar faces.
Capable of depth perceive distances accurately.
6 MONTHS
Can transfer a toy from one hand to the other
Begin to show fear of stranger, may cry\cling or reach out when taken away from parent
Pat their image in the mirror. Cam transfer toys from hand to hand.
7 MONTHS
Random reaching and grasping has disappeared.
Fear of stranger at its peak termed as stranger anxiety or “8th month anxiety.”
8 MONTHS
Cry when scolded.
9 MONTHS
Has pincer grasp-ability to bring thumb & first finger together can pick up small object.
Beginning of “object permanence”.
Looks under a blanket\towel or and corner for concealed objects.
10 MONTHS
Can hold cup & spoon feed is self. Can draw straight line with crayon.
Have overcome. Fear of stranger. Likes to play interactive nursery rhymes or games. They also like dancing with others.
12 MONTHS
