Factors that affect cellular respiration rate (5.5) Flashcards
Provide 3 factors that affect the rate of cellular respiration
- temperature
- glucose availability
- oxygen concentration
Describe temperature and its effect on the rate of cellular respiration
As the temperature moves out of the optimal temperature range, the rate of the enzyme reactions and therefore the rate at which cellular respiration occurs, will slow down
Describe the effect of glucose availability on the rate of cellular respiration
If the temperature remains constant, increasing glucose availability will increase reaction rate to a maximum point
State what the concentration of enzymes for cellular respiration is linked to
Availability of mitochondria within the cell
State what the point where the rate of photosynthesis equals the rate of aerobic cellular respiration in known as
Compensation point
Describe the effect of oxygen concentration on the rate of cellular respiration
Oxygen is required for the final reaction in the electron transport chain phase of aerobic cellular respiration
State the locations of aerobic cellular respiration
Cytosol and mitochondria
State the locations of the anaerobic cellular respiration
Cytosol
State the reactants of aerobic cellular respiration
Glucose and oxygen
State the reactants of anaerobic cellular respiration
Glucose
State the products of aerobic cellular respiration
Water and CO2 and ATP
State the products of anaerobic cellular respiration
Lactic acid (animals)
Ethanol and CO2 (plants/fungi)
and ATP
State the main carriers involved in the aerobic cellular respiration pathway
