Exercise Flashcards
1
Q
What requires more energy when you exercise
A
- Muscles contract more than normal
- Heart must pump faster (to get oxygenated blood around the body faster)
- Lungs work faster (to get more oxygen for respiration)
2
Q
What happenes when you are doing a vigorous activity and your body doesn’t have enough oxygen
A
- Your body respires anaerobically
3
Q
What happenes when your body respires anaerobically
A
- Build up of lactic acid (burning sensation)
- Oxygen debt
4
Q
How does the body remove lactic acid
A
- Pay off the oxygen debt - Your body will continue to have a high breathing rate and breath volume even after you finish exercising. This is to pay off the oxygen debt by reacting built up lactic acid with oxygen to form harmless CO2 and water
- Your blood can transport the lactic acid to the liver where it will react with oxygen to turn it back into glucose
5
Q
How can you measure the affect of exercise
A
- Heart rate (pulse)
- Breathing rate (how many times the chest rises and falls)
