What is diabetes?
A
- When the body can’t regulate is blood glucose levels

In what age group does type 1 diabetes occur?
A
- Younger age groups (childhood)
- It stays lifelong

What is the issue with someone who has type 1 diabetes?
A
- Their pancreas is not producing insuilin (or not enough) so blood glucose levels remain very high
- This can lead to them feeling ill or even death

How is type 1 diabetes treated?
A
- Treated via an insuilin injection after a meal usually in the abdomen or thigh

What is the amount of insuilin given in type 1 diabetes dependent on?
A
- What they’ve eaten (food high in carbs = more insuilin)
- How much exercise they do (if they exercise regularly then muscles take in more glucose for respiration)

In what age group does type 2 diabetes occur?
A
- Older people after a long time of an unhealthy diet

What is the issue in someone with type 2 diabetes
A
- The body’s tissues and cells have become resistant to insuilin

How is type 2 diabetes treated?
A
- Treated via a healthy, low sugar diet and regular exercise
- Cannot be treated by insuilin as cells no longer respond
