Dumping Syndrome may occur as a result of
any surgical procedure that involves the removal of a significant portion of stomach or includes resection or removal of the pyloris
dumping syndrome timeline?
occurs 15-30 minutes after eating and resolve within 1 hour or with bowel evacuation
Symptoms of Dumping Syndrome?
Satiety, Cramping Abdominal Pain, N/V, Diarrhea.
Vasomotor symptoms include headache, flushing, dizziness, palpations, drowsiness, faintess.
What to avoid with dumping sydrome
no fluids with meals no high carbs (breads, potatoes)
dumping syndrome feeling?
epigastric fullness
Old Theory on Dumping Syndrome?
Hypertonic gastric food bolus that quickly transit into the intestine drew extracellular fluid from the circulating blood volume into small intnestine to dilute high concentration of electrolytes and sugars
New Theory of DUmping Syndrome?
Thought that this rapid transit of the food bolus from teh stomach into small intestines causes rapid and exuberant release of metabolic peptides that are responsible for the symptoms of dumping syndrome
